Discover and Support Peoples Community Garden
Ensuring our patients and their families have access to nutritious foods for a healthy diet is a priority for us. In 2019, we initiated the Peoples Community Garden, providing free seasonal fruits and vegetables to Peoples Community Health Clinic patients.
Located on the east side of the clinic, the garden is easily visible when driving down Franklin Street. This year's crop included tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, habanero peppers, collard greens, Swiss chard, spinach, kale, okra, lettuce, carrots, radishes, potatoes, onions, zucchini, and squashes.
To learn more about the garden, check out this informative article or watch the interview with KWWL.
Garden Distribution
On designated "Distribution Days" patients can pick up produce from the garden table by the entrance of the Clinic. No appointments are necessary. All produce is free and will be distributed until gone.
2025 Season
We are planning for the 2025 growing season already! Check back in early spring for updates about the garden.
Volunteer in the Garden
Do you love to garden and have a little time to give? We are always looking for volunteers who can give a few hours a week during our planting, growing, and harvesting season. If this sounds like something you might be interested in doing, send us an email at marketing@peoples-clinic.com.
Your continued support allows us to provide healthy food options for our patients as well as volunteer and connection opportunities for our community.
Current projects:
This project is being conducted in partnership with faculty and students of the University of Northern Iowa Center for Energy & Environmental Education (CEEE) along with AmeriCorps. Education about and recipes using different produce from the garden is provided by Iowa State University Extension & Outreach through their Spend Smart Eat Smart program.
