Is Peoples Community Health Clinic a free clinic?
No. Peoples Clinic is not a free clinic. We differ from a free clinic in several ways.
Health centers (or clinics) like Peoples Clinic, receive some funding from federal and other grants, government healthcare programs, and insurance payments. Free clinics are funded by private investments and donations. We are staffed by employees hired with quality standards and experience, while free clinics are often staffed by volunteers. Peoples Clinic is directed and governed by a board with at least 51% patient members. Free clinic boards vary and may not be majority-led by patients.
Peoples Clinic provides primary care services regardless of a patient's ability to pay. Services are provided on a sliding scale fee based on the patient's income.
Where does Peoples Community Health Care get its income?
There are several ways that Peoples Clinic receives funding:
1) Patient fees (79%). These are fees received from insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid, and the patients themselves. Uninsured and under-insured patients are charged on a sliding fee scale based on family size, income, and services provided.
2) Government grants (18%) are used to help provide services to uninsured and under-insured patients.
3) Other grants, donations and miscellaneous (3%).
