People's Community Health provides accessible Behavioral Health Services for individuals seeking mental and behavioral health support. Staffed by experienced professionals, including psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners, clinical therapists, medical social workers, and nurses, this team was created to enhance accessibility to mental health support, contributing to the overall well-being of the community and individuals.
We are committed to integrated and comprehensive care - what we like to call "whole person care." This means that our behavioral health team works closely with your primary care provider and other medical professionals, collaborating with you to improve overall well-being.
Behavioral Health Services
Psychiatric Care, Behavioral Health Therapy, and Social Work Services
Services available (services and ages served vary by staff):
- Medication prescribing and management
- Brief intervention (solution-based therapy)
- Counseling/Therapy
- Community resource referrals
- Outpatient substance use disorder treatment. Including, but not limited to, opiate, alcohol, benzodiazepine, and methamphetamine
- Homeless outreach services

Homeless Outreach
Our goal is to improve your health status by improving our patients' access to healthcare, no matter their situation. If a person is experiencing homelessness, we can provide the following services:
- Medical appointments and urgent care access
- Dental appointments
- Assistance finding health insurance
- Training on caring for chronic conditions (such as diabetes or high blood pressure)
- Connecting with community organizations for more support
- Assisting with housing resources (Peoples Clinic does not provide housing or money for housing. We can, however, connect individuals or families with other area agencies that can assist with housing needs.)
- Help with substance abuse disorders
We are here to help. At Peoples Clinic, we want everyone to feel supported. For those individuals experiencing homelessness, we provide assistance and the company of professionals during appointments to ensure that our patients feel safe and welcomed.

Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Program
Our MAT Program (also knows as Medications for Opioid Use Disorder or MOUD) is offered at our Waterloo clinic.
Peoples Clinic understands the effects opioid dependence can have on a person’s personal and professional life. Peoples Clinic offers Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), a service combining behavioral therapy and medications to treat substance use disorders. This program involves:
- Medication tapering
- Medications utilized includes Suboxone and Naltrexone
- Psychiatric and medical care
- Therapy services
- Social work
Prior to beginning the MAT Program, an assessment is completed in the Clinic followed by a a meeting with a MAT provider to discuss options.
Our MAT-trained nurses are available to address questions about opioid dependence and eligibility for our MAT Program. To speak speak with a MAT-nurse, call (319) 874-3000, select the option for Medical Advice, and ask to be transferred to a MAT nurse.
